Role Purpose

To provide comprehensive support for individual pupils and groups of pupils inside and outside the classroom, enabling them to fully participate in school activities while supporting their social, emotional and physical well-being.

Key Responsibilities

Classroom Support & Academic Assistance

• Provide individual and group instruction as prescribed by the teacher.
• Demonstrate various instructional activities to pupils.
• Monitor work assigned by the teacher, checking and correcting pupils' work while in progress.
• Keep pupils on task during learning activities.
• Praise and reinforce achievements of pupils.
• Report pupil progress to the teacher.
• Assist class teachers with maintaining pupil records.
• Prepare and present displays of pupils' work.
• Support class teachers in photocopying and other administrative tasks to support teaching.
• Check attendance.

Individual Education Programmes & Additional Support Needs

• Assist in the implementation of individual education programmes for individual pupils and groups of pupils.
• Help monitor pupil progress against education programmes.
• Support pupils with additional support needs, including emotional and behavioural difficulties.
• Help develop pupils' social skills.
• Work with other professionals such as speech therapists and occupational therapists as necessary.

Supervision & Behaviour Management

• Supervise pupils in the classrooms and other locations.
• Participate in development of behaviour policy.
• Promote pupils' self-esteem.
• Discipline misbehaviour in line with whole school policy.

Health, Safety & Well-being

• Be pro-active in matters relating to health and safety.
• Support the aims of the school and comply with requirements of health and safety, other relevant legislation and school policies.
• Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance.

Team Engagement

• Attend team and staff meetings as required.
• Reorganize materials at the end of the day.
• Undertake other duties from time to time as the principal requires.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum secondary school certificate.
• At least two years' experience in a school setting.
• English language skills according to the school curriculum.
• Previous experience working with students for whom English is not their first language.
• A clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police check.
