Role Purpose

To support individual and groups of pupils inside and outside the classroom, enabling their full participation in school activities while providing for their social, emotional and physical well-being. The role assists in implementing individualized education programmes and helps monitor pupil progress while maintaining high standards of professionalism and child welfare.

Key Responsibilities

Pupil Support & Well-being

• Provide support for individual pupils and groups of pupils inside and outside the classroom to enable full participation in a range of activities during the school day.
• Provide for pupils' social, emotional and physical well-being.
• Support pupils with additional support needs including emotional and behavioural difficulties.
• Help develop pupils' social skills.
• Monitor work assigned by the teacher, checking and correcting pupils' work while in progress.
• Keep pupils on task.
• Praise and reinforce achievements of pupils.
• Report pupil progress to the teacher.
• Supervise pupils in classrooms and other locations.
• Participate in development of behaviour policy and promote pupils' self-esteem.
• Discipline misbehaviour in line with the whole school policy.

Academic Assistance

• Provide academic assistance to pupils.
• Give group instruction as prescribed by the teacher.
• Provide individual instruction as directed.
• Demonstrate various instructional activities.
• Assist in the implementation of individual education programmes for individual pupils and groups of pupils.

Classroom Operations

• Assist class teachers with maintaining pupil records.
• Check attendance.
• Assist class teachers with photocopying and other administrative tasks to support teaching.
• Prepare and present displays of pupils' work.
• Reorganise materials at the end of the day.

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Be pro-active in matters relating to health and safety.
• Support the aims of the school and comply with the requirements of health and safety, other relevant legislation and school policies.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum secondary school certificate.
• At least two years' experience in a school setting.
• English language skills according to the school curriculum.
• Previous experience working with students for whom English is not their first language.
• Clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police check.
