Role Overview
Chief Engineer for NMDC Group aboard a Dredger vessel.
Role Purpose
Manage all engine room and technical operations to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operation of main propulsion systems, dredging equipment, and auxiliary machinery while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and statutory regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Machinery Management
- Monitor machinery performance and take proactive measures to avoid breakdowns and operational delays.
- Ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operation of main propulsion systems, dredging equipment, and all auxiliary machinery.
- Oversee bunkering operations and ensure proper fuel management and control.
- Ensure optimal utilization of resources to enhance dredger productivity and cost efficiency.
Maintenance Planning & Execution
- Plan and implement preventive and corrective maintenance schedules in line with company policies and class requirements.
- Supervise dry docking, major overhauls, and inspections.
- Lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and implementation of long-term solutions.
Emergency Response & Critical Repairs
- Handle emergency situations, major breakdowns, and critical repairs efficiently.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, supervise, and manage the engineering team, ensuring high standards of performance and discipline.
- Ensure proper training, development, and appraisal of engine room personnel.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and safety within the engine room and workshop areas.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and statutory regulations at all times.
Resource Management
- Manage inventory of spare parts, fuel, lubricants, and technical consumables effectively.
Coordination & Reporting
- Coordinate with the Master, shore management, and project team for operational requirements and technical support.
- Prepare and maintain technical reports, maintenance records, and budget forecasts.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in marine or mechanical engineering.
- Minimum 5 years rank experience onboard a Dredger.
- Certificate of Competency as Chief Engineer.
