Role Overview
Chemist at ACWA Power, Al Madinnah Al Manwarah, Sidra. Reports administratively to Chief Chemist within Operations.
Role Purpose
Conduct laboratory analysis and sample testing, evaluate results, and support establishment of plant operational parameters to ensure efficient testing and sampling in compliance with NOMAC's policies, quality standards, and HSE procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Lab Testing
- Receive, check and register samples to ensure appropriate tests and analysis are undertaken.
- Develop reports on test results in an accurate and timely manner according to planned schedules to meet end user requirements.
- Keep abreast of regulatory requirements pertaining to environmental compliance, chemicals used in the plant, MSDS, plant P&IDs, SOPs, work instructions, and emergency operation procedures.
- Ensure compliance with standards and norms through knowledge of all related documents.
Plant Chemistry
- Interpret results of tests to help establish optimum operational parameters for current operations and to maintain plant integrity over the longer term.
- Provide process-related assistance to the Operations team on matters affecting plant process and performance to maximize yield as per quality guidelines.
- Provide support in internal and external Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental audits to effectively implement corrective actions.
Laboratory Handling
- Confirm yearly third-party calibration of lab instruments as per IMS requirements to ensure equipment is kept in safe and efficient working condition.
- Investigate operational problems related to chemical and physical analysis and submit recommendations to Chief Chemist to acquire data for process control and verification of quality.
- Maintain adequate stock of all chemicals consumables including bulk and fine chemicals, glassware, dosing and testing equipment to ensure timely availability and uninterrupted laboratory services.
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to identification and implementation of change initiatives, programmes and projects in line with the organisation's standards.
Compliance
- Adhere to all relevant organisational and departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out to the required standard and in a consistent manner.
- Adhere to all relevant health, safety, security and environmental procedures, instructions and controls to guarantee employee safety and environmental compliance.
Related Duties
- Perform any other duties which the line manager may require.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a Laboratory function within a reputed plant, preferably within the power and water desalination sector.
