Role Overview
Charge Nurse - ICU at SEHA, providing clinical leadership and ensuring high-quality, safe patient care within the Intensive Care Unit.
Role Purpose
Supervise the nursing team during each shift, coordinate patient care activities, and maintain adherence to clinical standards, policies, and regulatory requirements while managing complex ICU operations.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Patient Management
- Oversee patient assessments and planning of individualized care plans.
- Evaluate patient care outcomes and adjust interventions based on clinical need.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all patient care activities.
- Support evidence-based practice standards across the unit.
- Lead patient advocacy initiatives and ensure patient rights are upheld.
- Support patient and family education programs.
Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise nursing team performance during assigned shifts.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to nursing staff and junior staff members.
- Lead conflict resolution among team members.
- Guide and orient junior staff in clinical and professional standards.
- Monitor adherence to safe staffing levels in collaboration with the Nurse Manager.
Safety & Quality Assurance
- Ensure medication safety protocols are followed and upheld.
- Maintain safe working environment and promote patient safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with clinical standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Uphold ethical standards and promote a positive patient experience.
- Lead emergency response procedures and coordination during critical incidents.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Communication
- Facilitate interdisciplinary communication among healthcare team members.
- Partner with the Nurse Manager on staffing and unit operations.
Professional Development & Compliance
- Maintain professional competencies through ongoing education.
- Complete continuing education requirements as mandated.
- Maintain a professional portfolio documenting clinical expertise and development.
- Participate in nursing research initiatives where applicable.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor degree in Nursing, or Associate degree in Nursing from Canada or USA with minimum two years course duration.
- Successful completion of the National exam: NCLEX-RN (USA) or Licensing Exam (Canada).
- DOH License or eligibility for licensure.
