CCS Commissioning Specialist

Role Overview

CCS Commissioning Specialist at GE VERNOVA, based in Abu Dhabi. The role performs field service activities including preventive and remedial maintenance, manages maintenance facilities and field services engineering.

Role Purpose

To perform test and commissioning of protection and busbar protection systems, manage field service resources and project execution, and ensure customer commitments are met within budget and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Test & Commissioning

• Perform test and commissioning of protection and busbar protection systems, M&D projects, and other GA-related projects.
• Handle testing, panel integration, and internal validation at GEV facility.
• Support production documents including wiring tables, label lists, cable schedules, and interpanel wiring files.
• Perform CT/VT adequacy checks and relay setting calculations.
• Coordinate with panel manufacturers.

Resource & Project Management

• Plan resources for the Field Service commissioning team running projects.
• Manage project workload to ensure 90% and above billable ratio.
• Support Operations team to control projects effectively in terms of budgeted profitability, planning, and general reporting (internal and external).
• Ensure agreements with customers regarding documentation lead times, delivery, reliability, and quality are achieved within budgetary constraints.

Engineering & Design Support

• Handle engineering and field service works for protection relays, panels modification, protection logic diagrams, GA/LA, bill of materials, purchasing requests, protection/SCMS/LCC schematics, SCMS/cyber security architectures, SCMS signal lists, cable schedules, control desk drawings, and IEC61850 signal mapping.
• Provide technical clarification to suppliers and customers.
• Revise drawings against comments and reply to customer and consultant comments.
• Represent GE before customers and consultants in technical discussions and workshops.
• Provide input and secure design documents of required quality and timeliness from design outsourcing partners.
• Assist and guide a small team of draftsmen in daily design activities to deliver collaborative performance.

Stakeholder & Customer Management

• Liaise with other members of multidisciplinary teams.
• Ensure commitments to customers are met in accordance with contract terms through clear feedback and consistent customer interaction including communication (phone, email) and customer meetings with periodic reviews.
• Represent GE before customers and consultants in technical discussions and workshops.

Operations & Compliance

• Follow workplace EHS issues and ensure availability of suitable PPE for T&C personnel, both internal and subcontracted.
• Manage and secure approval and renewal of approvals from key accounts.

Implementation & Systems

• Implement ServiceMax during project execution.
• Support tendering activities.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in electronic, electrical engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in GEV protection, CCS (Conventional Control System), and M&D (Monitoring and Diagnose) systems such as MiCOM, UR family protection relays, DGA900, and MS3000.
• Minimum 3 years of working experience in high voltage substation engineering and field activities.
• Strong knowledge in protection main relays and busbar philosophy.
• Strong knowledge in Conventional Control System (CCS), distributed control system (DCS), and cyber security system implementation and design activities.
• Strong knowledge in field devices, instruments, and CCS systems.
• Ability to understand and implement technical drawings including wiring diagrams, P&ID, and General Arrangement drawings.

Skills & Competencies

• Experienced in all protection relays software and test kits.
• Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office Software Suite.
• Strong communication skills in English.
• Ability to read and interpret tender, contract documentation, schematics, procedures, and policy guidelines.
• Ability to draft routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to define problems, collect relevant data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to work on multiple tasks to meet strict deadlines and work under pressure with ownership of onsite activities.
• Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
• Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
• PMP certification is an advantage.
• Knowledge of schemes and application of protection relays in electrical networks including HV and EHV systems and state-of-the-art technologies in substation automation is an advantage.
• Fluency in Arabic is an advantage.
• Experience managing projects for protection and control systems is a distinct advantage.
