Role Overview

Cardiopulmonary Assistant at American Hospital Dubai. Provides professional, diligent, efficient, quality, non-clinical support (technical and clerical) for all cardiopulmonary care services.

Role Purpose

Deliver non-clinical technical and clerical support to the Cardiopulmonary Department, facilitating supplies, equipment, and accessories required for patient care. Support the department team according to the technical and clerical objectives of the Chief of Cardiopulmonary Department, the Assistant Director of Cardiopulmonary, and the Senior Respiratory Therapist, while adhering to American Hospital Dubai's Cardiopulmonary Clinical Policy and Procedures, Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) standards, and Dubai Health Authority (DHA) requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Quality and Safety

  • Provide and perform safe and quality technical support and assistance for cardiopulmonary and respiratory care services following established policy and procedures.
  • Respond to emergencies and assist with or perform Heart Saver procedures whenever clinically indicated.
  • Prepare and monitor medical equipment set-up and availability of accessories and medical supplies following JCIA and DHA safety standards.
  • Monitor and audit pre-use checks and calibration requirements of medical equipment following JCIA and DHA safety standards.
  • Disinfect and clean all cardiopulmonary medical equipment following JCIA and DHA infection control standards.
  • Perform daily patient room safety checks, respiratory supply checks, and patient room temperature and humidity checks following established clinical policy and procedures.
  • Monitor the Medication refrigerator following established clinical policy and procedures.
  • Operate, manage, and maintain the safety and functionality of cardiopulmonary and polysomnography medical equipment.

Equipment and Supply Management

  • Report all medical equipment requiring repair in the Service Requisition Software and maintain follow-ups to ensure safe return for patient care use.
  • Request clinical staff input regarding error messages and equipment issues before reporting in Service Requisition Software.
  • Maintain daily and monthly medical equipment, accessories, and supply requirements of the cardiopulmonary department, including audit of supply expiration.
  • Perform monthly inventory of medical supplies, review medical equipment preventive maintenance requirements and respiratory medications, and replenish all requirements as applicable.
  • Prepare all medical equipment required for daily respiratory care procedures and assist Respiratory Therapists with daily functional checks and calibration of equipment before diagnostic test procedures, treatment, and therapies.
  • Perform daily checks of the ABG Analyzer Machine sensors, cartridges, fluid packs, and thermal paper to ensure all stock is available.
  • Complete disinfection of the Low Flow Oxygen Delivery System and oxygen concentrators after each patient's utilization, dispose of soiled supplies, and replace with new and clean respiratory supplies.
  • Execute disinfection of the Aerosolize Room and Oxygen Delivery System after each patient's utilization and replace with new and clean respiratory supplies.
  • Perform disinfection of the Heated High Flow Nasal Cannula System after each patient's utilization and replace with new and clean respiratory supplies.
  • Serve supply replacement and disposal of Small Volume Nebulizer kits after each patient's utilization.
  • Perform disinfection of non-invasive and invasive ventilators after each patient's utilization and replace with new and clean respiratory supplies.
  • Conduct cleaning of medical equipment after each patient's utilization, dispose of soiled supplies, and change fresh and new respiratory supplies following established clinical policy and procedures.
  • Complete daily checks of Cardiopulmonary patient care rooms to ensure cleanliness, tidiness, and availability of supplies necessary for patient care.

Infection Prevention and Disposal

  • Dispose of all soiled or used single patient use medical supplies after each patient's test procedure using the medical biohazard bin at bedside and following Infection Prevention and Control standards and established clinical policy and procedures.

Facilities and Environment Management

  • Maintain the Supply Room, Patient Education Room, Staff Lounge, and front reception clean and tidy, ensuring patient medical files are not exposed to the public.
  • Maintain the Disinfection Room, Soiled Room, and Staff Lounge Room clean and tidy.
  • Perform monthly environmental rounds in the Cardiopulmonary Department, report environmental-related issues and concerns through Service Requisition Software, and ensure follow-up is completed.

Administrative and Organizational Support

  • Understand the requirements of daily work schedule, environmental rounds, and additional duties and responsibilities related to the job description.
  • Understand and comply with JCIA and DHA regulatory requirements regarding safety and availability of medical equipment and supplies within the department.
  • Assist front desk coverage for Patient Relations Executives during registration and medical billing processes if required, attend to calls forwarded to the department, and assist with patient care inquiries.
  • Assist the department in checking and filing monthly environment reports and other Cardiopulmonary staff inventory reports.

Performance Improvement and Clinical Support

  • Participate and assist the Assistant Director with Key Performance Improvement projects and Clinical Measures requirements for the respiratory section of the department.
  • Participate and assist the Assistant Director with daily end-of-shift patient care plan review and clinical events reporting.

Qualifications & Experience

  • High School Graduate
  • Minimum two (2) years of clerical and technical experience as a medical assistant in a hospital, clinic, or warehouse as a store assistant, including experience processing equipment inventory, delivery and cleaning requirements, and supply availability, inventory, and billing requirements.
  • Knowledgeable of patient care process and patient services of the department.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong patient advocate and excellent customer service orientation.
  • Skills in processing equipment and supplies inventory, delivery, sales, and patient medical billing.
  • Skills in cleaning of medical equipment.
  • Ability to lift or move medical supplies or medical equipment over 20 kilograms.
