Cardiology Assistant Consultant

Role Overview

Cardiology Assistant Consultant at King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz University Hospital. The role provides medical care for the overall management of patients within the scope of cardiology services and contributes to administration, education, and research at the institution.

Role Purpose

To provide clinical care for patients within the cardiology specialty scope, assist consulting physicians in their clinical work, and contribute to the hospital's administrative, educational, and research functions while upholding institutional mission, values, and professional ethics standards.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

• Provide patient care at the assistant consultant level in accordance with delineated scope of services and granted privileges.
• Deliver patient consultations, follow-up care, and clinical procedures across outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, emergency room, operation room, day unit, and intensive care units.
• Participate in on-call duties assigned equally and fairly by the Section Head and Department Chairman.
• Practice patient care in accordance with up-to-date best practices and scientific evidence under consultant supervision.
• Ensure compliance with hospital quality improvement initiatives and accreditation requirements while maintaining a safe healing environment.
• Empower patients and families to become active partners in health and wellness, contributing to an excellent patient experience.
• Demonstrate stewardship through high accountability, appropriate resource utilization, and efficient patient care processes.
• Supervise residents under assigned responsibility, contribute to their professional development, and provide performance feedback.

Administrative

• Undertake administrative duties as required for division, department, and hospital development and operations.
• Participate in developing clinical management guidelines, clinical pathways, and evidence-based best practices.
• Contribute to quality assurance and improvement activities including audits, peer reviews, and morbidity and mortality rounds.
• Support procurement requirements, recruitment of medical staff, and manpower planning.
• Collaborate in developing policies and procedures, improving processes, and developing department manuals.
• Serve as member of hospital committees and collaborate with other departments.

Education & Research

• Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities in accordance with institutional rules and regulations.
• Provide regular teaching to team members at appropriate levels.
• Participate in educational activities including Grand Rounds, Journal Club, and daily morning meetings.
• Maintain continuing medical education credits and recertification requirements.
• Ensure minimal knowledge and requirements for conducting scientific research.
• Participate in research activities within the department and hospital, working towards scientific publications.
• Promote patient-centered care culture by respecting patients and their families.
• Participate in and support quality improvement and patient safety activities as an individual or team member.

Qualifications & Experience

• Certified as Assistant Consultant from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS).
