Role Overview
Business Developer at Air Liquide. The Large Industries Business Development (LIBD) function works at the intersection of strategy, commercial, finance and project management activities, driving growth of the Large Industries business line by orchestrating the solution sales process of multi-million investment projects.
Role Purpose
To fuse strategy development, customer relations, financial modeling, commercial offers and contract management. The role orchestrates multi-million investment projects and drives profitable growth across oil refining, chemical, petrochemical and steel industries.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development
- Establish, maintain and grow trustful relationships with large corporations in oil refining, chemical, petrochemical or steel industries.
- Identify, understand and analyze customer needs, processes, projects and pain points.
- Explore customer organizations, decision-making criteria and leaders.
- Assess competitive moves, capabilities and contexts surrounding sales leads.
- Ensure good internal networking for awareness and alignment between departments and entities.
- Identify and initiate business growth opportunities aligned with company strategy.
- Elaborate winning strategy and underlying solution, supported by qualitative and quantitative arguments.
- Write commercial presentations, offers and bids.
- Write, in collaboration with legal teams, and negotiate with customers the project framework agreements including gas supply agreements, utilities agreements and memorandums.
Project Development
- Identify and mobilize required resources to form ad-hoc cross-functional project teams including engineering, legal, finance and other departments.
- Define cost, scope and schedule of assigned business growth opportunities to deliver winning solutions to customers and profitable growth to Large Industries.
- Ensure timely and rigorous investment and decision-making processes internally and externally.
- Write key internal project deliverables including investment committee notes.
Finance
- Know the basic principles and relationships between profit and loss, cash flow and balance sheet.
- Understand investment notions of time value of money, net present value, internal rate of return, hurdle rates and opportunity costs.
- Calculate and accurately control project financial models for pricing and investment decision needs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering or finance.
- MBA degree is a plus.
- Minimum 5 to 10 years of business development experience involving investment decisions.
- Knowledge of refining, chemical or petrochemical processes or energy transition considerations is a plus.
