Role Purpose

The Bosun supervises deck crew and ensures efficient execution of all deck operations onboard the dredger, maintaining safe working conditions and coordinating all deck activities with bridge and engine room personnel.

Key Responsibilities

Deck Operations & Supervision

• Plan, assign, and monitor daily tasks such as mooring, anchoring, towing, and dredging support activities.
• Supervise deck crew to maintain high standards of seamanship.
• Assist in dredging operations including pipeline handling, floating lines, anchors, and spud operations as required.
• Coordinate with bridge and engine room for smooth operation of deck machinery and work activities.

Equipment & Maintenance

• Maintain deck equipment including winches, cranes, wires, shackles, and lifting gear in safe working condition.
• Oversee routine maintenance, chipping, painting, greasing, and housekeeping of deck areas.
• Monitor condition of ropes, wires, and fenders, and ensure timely replacement or repair.
• Maintain inventory of deck stores, tools, and consumables, and report requirements.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure proper rigging, slinging, and lifting operations in coordination with officers and crane operators.
• Conduct toolbox talks and enforce safety procedures and use of PPE during all operations.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, safety management system (SMS), and permit-to-work procedures.
• Participate in emergency drills such as fire, man overboard, and abandon ship.
• Report any defects, incidents, or unsafe conditions to the Chief Officer promptly.

Crew Management & Training

• Train and guide deck ratings (ABs, OS) to maintain high standards of seamanship.
• Ensure safe access arrangements and proper gangway and watchkeeping when alongside or at anchor.

Qualifications & Experience

• SYCW training and Rating Forming Part of Navigation Watch certificate.
• 5–10 years' experience on Dredger.
