Role Overview
Assistant Manager, Engineering at Marriott International. This position supports the management of all engineering and maintenance operations at a Courtyard property, with focus on building, grounds, and physical plant management, with particular attention to safety, security, and asset protection.

Role Purpose
To assist in the day-to-day management of all engineering and maintenance operations, including the physical plant, budget oversight, capital projects, preventative maintenance, energy conservation, regulatory compliance, and emergency response leadership to ensure the property operates safely, securely, and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Assist with managing the physical plant including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems.
- Manage and control heat, light, and power usage.
- Recommend current best methods for energy conservation and economical facility operations.
- Distribute preventive maintenance and repair work orders and monitor timeliness and quality of completion.
- Develop a long-term plan for preventative maintenance and asset protection and oversee execution of the plan.
- Manage parts and equipment inventory.
- Select and order or purchase new equipment, supplies, and furnishings.
Budget and Capital Management
- Assist with managing the budget and capital expenditure projects.
- Develop specifications and requirements for service contracts and administer such contracts to support building needs.
- Coordinate with contractors for bids and construction to ensure timely completion of projects within budgetary guidelines.
- Develop project plans in accordance with renovation or new construction needs.
Facility Maintenance and Oversight
- Assist with the oversight of the maintenance of grounds, guestrooms, public space, restaurants, property vehicles, and recreational facilities.
- Perform monthly property inspections to ensure buildings and grounds are maintained in excellent condition.
- Conduct guestroom and common area inspections to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities to determine the type of work required.
- Recommend or arrange for additional services such as painting, repair work, renovations, and the replacement of furnishings and equipment.
Regulatory Compliance and Safety
- Assist with ensuring regulatory compliance to facility regulations and safety standards.
- Maintain property life safety systems including fire-fighting equipment, sprinkler systems, and alarm systems.
- Ensure building and equipment licenses and certifications are current.
- Ensure fire crew has complete understanding of all procedures, equipment, and alarms.
- Assist with leading the emergency response team for all facility issues.
Stakeholder Management and Customer Service
- Build positive relationships with external customers such as city building and zoning departments, fire prevention bureaus, and vendors.
- Display leadership in guest hospitality, exemplifying excellent customer service and creating a positive atmosphere for guest relations.
- Establish guidelines so employees understand expectations and parameters.
- Review comment cards, guest satisfaction results, and other data to identify areas of improvement.
- Share plans with property leadership and ensure corrective action is taken to continuously improve guest satisfaction.
- Strive to improve service performance.
Qualifications & Experience
Option 1
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or related professional area.
- Technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, or plumbing.
Option 2
- 2-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related major.
- No experience required.
