Role Overview
Assistant Director of Human Resources at Marriott. This role assists the Director of Human Resources in executing strategies that attract, retain, and develop diverse premier talent, directing human resource employees to carry out daily departmental activities including recruitment, total compensation, employee relations, and training and development.
Role Purpose
Execute against objectives outlined in the Human Resources Business Plan, deliver services that meet or exceed the needs of employees and enable business success, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and Standard Operating Procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Staffing and Recruitment
- Ensure open positions are advertised in appropriate venues to attract a diverse candidate pool.
- Ensure open position listings are in visible locations for both internal and external candidates.
- Work with Employment Administrator to establish and maintain contact with external recruitment sources, including state job service, local colleges, recruiting agencies, and community-based organizations.
- Network with local organizations and peers to source candidates for current or future openings, such as the Hotel Association.
- Facilitate interdepartmental transfers, promotions, and transfers or promotions to other properties within the property brand.
- Oversee the selection and offer processes for hourly employees to ensure proper procedures are followed, including documentation of valid reasons for selection or non-selection and status notifications to applicants.
- Partner with department managers and recruiting professionals to recruit management positions, make hiring decisions, and negotiate job offers in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
Legal and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with key policies including Sexual Harassment, Non-Harassment, Non-Discrimination, and No Solicitation.
- Ensure interviews are conducted according to recommended guidelines, consistent screening criteria are used, and only job-related questions are asked.
- Ensure wages are paid in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and federal and state laws, including employee pay for meeting attendance, maximum rates of pay, entry-level rates for new hires, overtime provisions, and separation pay.
- Ensure drug screening and background checks are completed in accordance with brand Standard Operating Procedures.
Benefits Administration
- Manage Workers Compensation claims to ensure appropriate employee care and cost management.
- Educate employees on benefits packages.
- Educate the HR team on various types of benefits available and eligibility requirements.
- Provide an overview of employee benefits to the management team to enable them to educate their employees and answer routine questions.
- Ensure the department has available resources on hand to administer employee benefits.
Staff Development
- Ensure hourly performance appraisal processes are in place.
- Assist in identifying key drivers of employee satisfaction and support managers in addressing issues with written plans and actions.
- Coach managers on the progressive discipline process.
- Ensure development plans are in place, including documented goals and measured progress toward goal achievement.
Employee Relations and Communication
- Utilize an open door policy to address employee problems or concerns in a timely manner.
- Ensure effective employee communication channels are established and active.
- Analyze accident trends and report these trends to the management team.
- Monitor the work environment for signs of union organization.
Qualifications & Experience
- High school diploma or GED with 4 years of experience in human resources, management operations, or a related professional area.
OR
- 2-year degree from an accredited university in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related major with 2 years of experience in human resources, management operations, or a related professional area.
