Associate HSES Specialist

Role Overview

Associate HSES Specialist at McDermott, working on-site with HSES Specialists and Supervisors to plan, implement, and coordinate Health, Safety, Environment and Security (HSES) programs that prevent or correct hazardous conditions.

Role Purpose

The Associate HSES Specialist leverages conceptual knowledge of HSES theories, practices, and procedures to support the development and execution of organizational safety programs, identify hazards, and guide field personnel toward safe work practices and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Standards

• Provide HSE leadership to field personnel and establish standards of behavior.
• Observe workgroups and intervene and advise workers found committing unsafe acts.
• Keep supervisors advised of unsafe acts and conditions identified.

Policy & Compliance

• Maintain working knowledge of current HSES policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Ensure company HSE policies and procedures are implemented consistently and effectively across all employees.
• Confirm that all employees know and understand applicable policies and procedures.
• Monitor compliance with local and international HSES laws, codes, regulations, and norms.

Inspection & Hazard Identification

• Regularly inspect work areas to identify unsafe acts and conditions.
• Report identified deficiencies to line management, advising on those that cannot be immediately corrected.
• Observe the condition of plant equipment (cranes, forklifts, etc.) and report deficiencies to the relevant Supervisor.

Incident & Emergency Response

• Assist with incident investigations and compilation of reports.
• Assist with medical evacuations (medivacs) and respond to emergencies promptly.
• Monitor maintenance and inspection of lifesaving and firefighting equipment.

Communication & Training

• Ensure HSE communications from Line Management—including HSES performance, statistics, and critical communications—are disseminated to all employees via HSES Notice boards and discussion at HSES meetings.
• Observe workgroups and provide guidance and coaching to personnel on safe work performance.
• Observe and assist supervision during the delivery of Toolbox Talks.

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree or Diploma (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in a related field.
• 3 years of relevant HSES experience.
• Maintain key competencies associated with the HSES function.

Skills & Competencies

• Written and spoken communication and presentation skills.
• Working knowledge of local and international HSES laws, codes, regulations, and norms.
