Associate HSES Specialist

Role Overview

Associate HSES Specialist at McDermott, working with HSES Specialists and Supervisors to plan, implement, and coordinate Health, Safety, Environment, and Security (HSES) programs to prevent or correct hazardous conditions.

Role Purpose

Leverage conceptual knowledge of HSES theories, practices, and procedures to support the delivery of HSES programs and ensure safe working practices across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Standards

• Provide HSE leadership to field personnel and set standards of behavior.
• Observe workgroups and intervene and advise workers if found committing unsafe acts.
• Keep supervisors advised of unsafe acts.
• Observe work groups and provide guidance and coaching to personnel to perform work safely.

Policy & Compliance

• Maintain current working knowledge of HSES policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Ensure company HSE policies and procedures are implemented consistently and effectively and are known and understood by all employees.

Inspections & Hazard Identification

• Regularly inspect work areas to identify unsafe acts and conditions.
• Advise line management of hazardous conditions that cannot immediately be corrected.
• Observe the condition of the plant (cranes, forklifts, etc.) and report deficiencies to the relevant Supervisor.

Incident & Emergency Response

• Assist with incident investigations and compilation of reports.
• Assist with medical evacuations (medivacs) and respond to emergencies promptly.

Equipment & Safety Systems

• Monitor maintenance and inspection of lifesaving and firefighting equipment.

Communications & Training

• Ensure HSE communications received from Line Management, such as HSES Performance, statistics, and critical communications, are brought to the attention of all employees via the posting of such information on HSES Notice Boards and discussion at HSES meetings.
• Observe and assist supervision during the delivery of Toolbox Talks.

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree or Diploma (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in a related field.
• 3 years of relevant experience.
• Conversant with local and international HSES laws, codes, regulations, and norms.

Skills & Competencies

• Maintain key competencies associated with the HSES function.
• Written and spoken communication and presentation skills.
