Role Overview
Associate Data Engineer at Bayut | dubizzle, a homegrown classified platform brand with presence across the seven emirates in the UAE. The role is based in the UAE and offers the opportunity to work on end-to-end data lifecycle projects across a group of 5 collective brands serving more than 123 million monthly users.

Role Purpose
The Associate Data Engineer will participate in exciting projects covering the end-to-end data lifecycle, from raw data integrations with primary and third-party systems through advanced data modelling to state-of-the-art data visualisation and development of innovative data products. The role offers opportunities to build and work with both batch and real-time data processing pipelines in a modern cloud-based data warehousing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Data Integration & Warehouse Development
- Perform raw data integrations with primary and third-party systems.
- Develop in Amazon Redshift cluster environment.
- Perform data warehouse modelling for operational and application data layers.
- Design and implement ETL in Matillion ETL.
Data Processing & Pipeline Development
- Work on SQL development as part of an agile team workflow.
- Build real-time data pipelines and applications using serverless and managed AWS services such as Lambda, Kinesis, API Gateway, and REST API.
- Maintain coding standards in SQL, Python, and ETL design.
- Participate in early morning ETL status check rota.
Data Products & Analytics
- Design and implement data products enabling data-driven features or business solutions.
- Build data dashboards and advanced visualisations in Periscope Data with focus on UX, simplicity, and usability.
- Ensure data quality, system stability, and security.
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
- Work with other departments on data products including product and technology, marketing and growth, finance, core business, and advertising.
- Liaise with other departments such as product and technology, core business verticals, trust and safety, finance, and others to enable them to succeed.
- Have end-to-end project ownership and manage stakeholders.
- Be a team player by taking ownership of tasks and working on them.
Team Contribution

Qualifications & Experience
- Top-ranking academic background in a technical discipline such as computer science, engineering, mathematics, or physics.
- 2+ years of experience working with customer-centric data at big data-scale, preferably in an online or e-commerce context.
- 1+ years of experience with one or more programming languages, especially Python and SQL.
- Experience working with a modern big data warehouse with ETL and data visualisation.
Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of relational and dimensional data models.
- Knowledge of terminal operations and Linux workflows.
- Good knowledge of SQL across a variety of relational data warehousing technologies, especially in cloud data warehousing such as Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, Snowflake, and Vertica.
- Ability to communicate insights and findings to a non-technical audience.
