Assistant Resident Engineer - Electrical(33/11 kV brick-built primary substations )

Role Overview

Assistant Resident Engineer – Electrical at WSP Middle East, based in the UAE. This role supports the oversight and management of electrical engineering projects within the ADDC or AADC domain, specifically involving 33/11 kV brick-built primary substations.

Role Purpose

To support the Resident Engineer in ensuring that electrical engineering projects are executed according to specifications, on time, and within budget, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety across large infrastructure and utilities projects in the UAE.

Key Responsibilities

Project Oversight & Coordination

• Support the Resident Engineer in overseeing and coordinating electrical engineering activities across multiple project types within the UAE.
• Coordinate and supervise site inspection activities, monitor construction progress, and provide guidance to site supervision staff under the direction of the Resident Engineer.
• Participate in meetings with clients, contractors, authorities, and internal stakeholders, providing technical input and follow-up on agreed actions.

Technical Review & Quality Assurance

• Assist in reviewing and resolving technical issues on site, contributing to the development of practical and efficient engineering solutions.
• Review contractor submissions, shop drawings, method statements, and project documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements, QA procedures, and applicable standards.
• Monitor contractor performance and workmanship, ensuring that electrical installations comply with approved drawings, specifications, local authority regulations, and industry best practices.

Health, Safety & Environment

• Ensure that Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements are implemented and adhered to in all site activities in accordance with company policies and project specifications.

Resource Management & Communication

• Support effective resource planning and project delivery by coordinating with project teams and Complementary Resource Centers (CRCs), facilitating communication, design reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives to achieve project targets and quality objectives.

Documentation & Reporting

• Assist in the preparation of progress reports, technical assessments, site instructions, and other project-related documentation required by the Resident Engineer and project stakeholders.
• Support project close-out activities, including testing and commissioning reviews, snagging inspections, and handover documentation.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. Master's Degree is an advantage.
• Proven experience as an Assistant Resident Engineer (Electrical), Electrical Engineer, or Site Electrical Engineer on large infrastructure, utilities, or construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, construction methodologies, and site supervision practices.
• Experience in monitoring contractor performance, reviewing technical submittals, and ensuring compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
• Good knowledge of UAE local authority requirements, as well as relevant international construction codes, regulations, and industry standards.
