Role Purpose
To direct and oversee all activities of staff and students, ensuring a safe, orderly, and smooth-functioning learning environment. The Assistant Principal works alongside the Principal and Vice Principal to deliver school improvement, raise student achievement, and support the professional development of teaching and support staff in line with the school development plan and ADEK regulations.
Key Responsibilities
School Leadership & Operations
- Direct and quality-assure activities of staff and students to ensure a safe, orderly, and smooth-functioning environment conducive to learning.
- Work and meet with other administrators and staff to foster and participate in team collaboration and effectiveness.
- Perform duties as assigned by the School Principal.
Assessment & Student Achievement
- Support and administer the annual school assessment and monitoring master schedule in conjunction with the school SLT and school department leaders.
- Implement student achievement improvement efforts as mapped out in the school development plan and ADEK regulations.
- Direct the MAP/Exact Path student achievement plan.
- Develop a progress-based testing schedule in coordination with the assessment coordinator.
- Establish and oversee processes related to assessment and reporting of student attainment and progress.
- Manage data collection, students' records, and archiving.
- Oversee school improvement plans, standardized testing, remediation, collection and reporting of data as required.
- Develop special schedules and testing procedures as necessary.
Staff Recruitment, Supervision & Development
- Collaborate with the Principal and Vice Principal to supervise and evaluate teachers, supervisors, and curriculum support staff as assigned.
- Provide leadership in screening and interviewing applicants, including non-teaching positions, and recommend applicants to be interviewed.
- Assist in determining, developing, and implementing plans for staff CPD development that facilitates professional growth and enhances the quality and efficiency of teaching.
Instruction & Improvement
- Collaborate with the SLT team regarding new or changing instructional methods, materials, strategies, and programs.
- Lead school initiatives that result in improvement in standards and achievement.
Compliance & Reporting
- Assist in completion and submission of all required reports, forms, and data requests on time to designated sources.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Education or B.Sc. degree with PGCE is essential; Master's degree is preferred.
- At least 6 years' experience overall.
- At least 4 consecutive years of teaching performance that exceeds standards and expectations, as evidenced by performance appraisal.
- At least 2 years' experience in a middle leadership role.
- Experience leading school initiatives that have led to improvement in standards and achievement.
- Experience working with parents and external agencies.

- Secure knowledge of teaching and learning with a track record of implementing effective strategies to raise standards and plug gaps in learning.
- Ability to work with data and be effective in using data to diagnose, intervene, and evaluate impact upon learning.
