Assistant Pharmacist

Role Overview

Assistant Pharmacist at NMC Healthcare. The role ensures efficient pharmacy operations from Ministry of Health and organizational perspectives, supporting pharmacists through clerical duties, patient care, and inventory management.

Role Purpose

To assist pharmacists in delivering accurate, compliant pharmaceutical services to patients while maintaining MOH regulatory standards, managing inventory, and supporting pharmacy staff development and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Service

• Welcome and greet patients and customers as they enter the pharmacy.
• Dispense medications accurately in an orderly manner in the correct dosage and quantity as prescribed by the physician with clear instructions and in packaging that maintains medicine potency.
• Ensure every patient who walks in has been taken care of and nobody is left unattended or unsatisfied.
• Handle telephone calls in the pharmacy and provide information to customer queries.
• Ensure pharmacy coordinators are escorting all clinic patients to the pharmacy.

Inventory & Stock Management

• Maintain medicine and general products on the rack and locate the correct medicine from the rack as per prescription.
• Ensure proper maintenance of inventory and handle it properly.
• Ensure no medicine lies on the pharmacy floor; strict action will be taken against any pharmacist violating this procedure.
• Notify the purchase coordinator of slow and fast-moving products from the ERP.
• Prepare and submit a monthly report of non-moving items from the rack to the purchase coordinator.

Liquidation

• Execute liquidation of pharmacy stock.
• Develop and implement a proper plan to liquidate product with short shelf life to avoid non-moving and expiry issues.
• Give priority to non-moving stock for OTC products.
• Manage liquidation of non-moving product.

Quality & Compliance

• Implement and improve Quality SOPs in the pharmacy as per MOH guidelines and work closely with the Quality Manager.
• Ensure the pharmacy is MOH compliant and update all documents regularly and maintain them in the pharmacy.

Staff & Operations

• Work closely with pharmacy staff.
• Facilitate, induct, train, and develop staff on their job when necessary and encourage effective teamwork.

Qualifications & Experience

• Hold an appropriate license to work as an Assistant Pharmacist in the relevant regulatory health authority with all qualifications and experience these mandates require.
• Manage own professional re-licensure.

Skills & Competencies

• Hold a valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card.
• Communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written).
• Work as part of an inter-professional team.
• Possess organizational and administrative skills to use the electronic medical record platform for clinical documentation.
• Communicate effectively in Arabic (desirable).

• Be willing to work across departments when necessary.
