Role Overview
2nd W/K Electrical Engineer for Cutter Suction Dredger with NMDC Group.
Role Purpose
Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all electrical, electronic, automation, and instrumentation systems onboard the Cutter Suction Dredger to ensure safe and reliable operation of power generation, power distribution, dredging electrical systems, propulsion auxiliaries, and vessel automation.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repair
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all electrical, electronic, automation, and instrumentation systems onboard the Cutter Suction Dredger.
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance and corrective repairs in accordance with the Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
- Diagnose and rectify faults on PLCs, VFDs, MCCs, switchboards, generators, motors, sensors, alarms, and control systems.
- Maintain electrical systems associated with cutter drives, dredge pumps, jet pumps, spud systems, winches, hydraulic controls, and auxiliary machinery.
- Maintain emergency electrical systems, UPS units, batteries, navigation lights, communication equipment, and safety alarms.
Monitoring & Safety
- Monitor electrical load distribution, insulation integrity, protection systems, and the overall health of electrical equipment to ensure uninterrupted dredging operations.
- Apply Permit-to-Work (PTW), Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), and other electrical isolation procedures before carrying out maintenance activities.
- Ensure compliance with ISM Code, Class, Flag State requirements, company procedures, and applicable electrical safety regulations.
Records & Documentation
- Keep accurate maintenance records, electrical drawings, calibration records, and spare parts inventory for all electrical equipment.
Coordination & Leadership
- Coordinate closely with the Chief Engineer, Dredge Master, and deck and engine departments to support continuous and efficient dredging operations.
- Supervise and provide technical guidance to Electrical Ratings, trainees, and contractors during maintenance and repair activities.
- Participate in emergency drills and provide technical support during breakdowns and emergency situations.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify recurring equipment issues, recommend technical improvements, and contribute to enhancing vessel reliability and operational performance.
General Duties
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Chief Engineer to support the safe and efficient operation of the vessel.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Automation Engineering.
- Five to ten years' experience on Dredger or in heavy industries with automation.
- Basic STCW training certification.
- Medical fitness certificate.
Skills & Competencies
- Diagnosis and repair of PLCs, VFDs, MCCs, switchboards, generators, motors, sensors, and control systems.
- Knowledge of power generation and power distribution systems.
- Knowledge of dredging electrical systems and propulsion auxiliaries.
- Troubleshooting of automation and instrumentation systems.
- Understanding of electrical load distribution and insulation integrity monitoring.
- Emergency electrical system operation and maintenance.
- Familiarity with Permit-to-Work and Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures.
- Knowledge of ISM Code, Class, and Flag State requirements.
- Technical supervision and guidance skills.
- Emergency response and breakdown support capabilities.
