Role Overview
1st Watchkeeping Engineer for a Dredger with NMDC Group.
Role Purpose
Monitor and operate all engine room machinery during assigned watches to ensure safe and efficient functioning of main engines, generators, pumps, and auxiliary systems while maintaining continuous watchkeeping as per company and maritime regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Machinery Operations & Monitoring
- Monitor and operate all engine room machinery during assigned watches.
- Ensure safe and efficient functioning of main engines, generators, pumps, and auxiliary systems.
- Carry out routine inspections, readings, and performance monitoring of all equipment.
- Promptly detect and respond to machinery alarms, faults, and abnormal conditions.
Maintenance & Repairs
- Assist in preventive and corrective maintenance as directed by the Chief Engineer.
- Assist in troubleshooting and minor repairs during operations.
- Support dry docking and major maintenance activities when required.
Records & Compliance
- Maintain proper logbooks, checklists, and engine room records.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures, permit-to-work systems, and environmental regulations.
Fuel & Energy Management
- Support fuel management, lubrication, and energy efficiency measures.
- Participate in bunkering operations and monitor fuel transfer activities.
Operations & Coordination
- Coordinate with deck and dredging teams for smooth operations.
- Handle emergency situations such as breakdowns, fire, or flooding in the engine room.
- Ensure cleanliness and good housekeeping standards in machinery spaces.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and guide junior engineers and engine crew during watch.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 10 years' experience on marine vessels, preferably on dredgers.
- Certificate of Competency as Chief Engineer or 2nd Engineer.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong technical knowledge of marine engine room systems and operations.
- Alertness and ability to detect machinery faults and abnormal conditions.
- Teamwork and coordination across deck and dredging operations.
- Emergency response and crisis management capability.
